The Best ‘Proposal’ Scene in a Movie Ever!

Over time I’ve developed great fondness for Rom-coms than any other genre of our times. I somehow feel they help me keep my sanity when their quirky love tales and mushiness collide with the strange-harsh reality.

Reese Witherspoon is one of the actresses I regard very highly for her immaculate performances on screen. Last weekend, while looking for something to watch in my laptop, I came across this movie named “Sweet Home Alabama’.

It is a beautifully written film about a small town woman, who has hopes and dreams of making it big like any other person. The film opens with this beautiful beautiful scene where Patrick Dempsey (who is in love with Reese) whisks her away in a fancy car and brings her into an enormous dimly lit manor.

Reese was made to keep her eyes closed and as she opens it, she finds herself standing amidst a roomful of jewellery! Patrick has gotten her to Tiffany’s and she can’t believe it. He kneels down to propose to her in the classic manner indeed, while she’s dazed as things are happening too fast for her. The entire store is spectating the eventful moment. Reese looks around, and realises this is what she wanted after all and finally says yes!

Sigh! So that according to me was the most beautiful proposal in a movie ever. Do you have any other favourites? Let me know in the comments. J

  1. From the movie "Love actually".A language barrier couldn't keep these two apart — while recovering from a broken heart at his French cottage, Jamie (Colin Firth) falls for Portuguese housekeeper Aurélia (Lúcia Moniz), who only speaks her native tongue. After Jamie returns to England, he begins learning Portuguese and later returns to France to find Aurélia. Using his new knowledge, he proposes to her in Portuguese — and then she responds in English, which she has been secretly learning for his sake! language barrier couldn't keep these two apart — while recovering from a broken heart at his French cottage, Jamie (Colin Firth) falls for Portuguese housekeeper Aurélia (Lúcia Moniz), who only speaks her native tongue.
